Located in the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly of the Central Region\u2014adjacent to the historic Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital\u2014PNTC has grown from a pioneering initiative into a leading premier center of excellence for mental health training in Africa.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">The College began its training mandate with the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">Qualified Registered Mental Nursing (QRMN)<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">Enrolled Mental Health Nursing (EMN)<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0programs. In\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">1974<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">, the curriculum was expanded with the introduction of the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">Post SRN\/RMN<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0program (an 18-month specialization for general nurses), which was subsequently phased out in\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">2002<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0as part of a broader curriculum restructuring exercise.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">A landmark transition occurred in\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">2003<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">, when the College adopted the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">Diploma in Registered Mental Nursing (RMN)<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0program, with an initial intake of just\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">40 students<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">. This marked a shift toward higher academic standardization under the regulatory oversight of the Nurses and Midwifery Council (NMC) of Ghana. Building on this foundation, the College further expanded its scope in\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">2017<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0with the introduction of the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">Registered Community Mental Nursing (RCMN)<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0program, reflecting Ghana&#8217;s growing emphasis on decentralized, community-based mental health care.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">Operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, PNTC&#8217;s curriculum and professional standards remain strictly regulated by the NMC. Today, PNTC proudly fosters a vibrant academic community of nearly\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">1,250 students<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"\">\u00a0drawn from all corners of the nation and the wider West African sub-region, solidifying its reputation as a continental leader in mental health workforce
